Step 4

Take the trip of a lifetime!

The Ausangate Treks do not require permits to hike along these trails. We offer several treks through this breathtaking region, all of which can be done on its own or as a package including Machu Picchu. Ausangate Treks are moderate to strenuous with high altitude passes and remote wilderness camping and hiking. Don’t miss the opportunity to explore a true off the beaten path area of Cusco and Machu Picchu – a once in a lifetime experience! We can also modify either of our Ausangate treks to be longer or shorter and a few of our routes even combine with the Rainbow Trek! Contact us if you need some guidance in choosing which trek is best for you!

Killa Expeditions is dedicated to excellent customer service and adventure experiences. We are also proud of the fact we do not charge extra to “upgrade” as we offer the best option included in the price already. There are no hidden meal costs and best of all no booking fees!

Ausangate Trek + Machu Picchu Package

7 Days 6 Nights

Ausangate Trek

5 Days 4 Nights

Extended Ausangate Rainbow & Machu Picchu

9 Days 8 Nights

The AUSANGATE TREKS hike along a stunning trail in the Vilcanota Mountain Range. It is very remote and is true pristine wilderness hiking and camping. This is an excellent and popular alternative to the Inca Trail, offering breathtaking vistas every step of the way. On this trek you will see many beautiful lakes, snow-capped mountains, glaciers, chinchillas, and herds of alpacas and llamas. If you are lucky you may also see wild vicuña and even a condor! The 7 Day/6 Night Ausangate Trek & Machu Picchu Package includes the best of both worlds: a stunning 5 day trek past snow-capped mountains, glaciers, lakes, and wildlife, all ending with a tour of Maras, Moray & Salineras on Day 6 and a tour of one of the 7 man-made wonders of the world, Machu Picchu on day 7. The 5 Day/4 Night Ausangate Trek is the same incredible multi-day hike without the tour of Maras, Moray, & Salineras or Machu Picchu. Both treks are strenuous due to long mileage (67 km/41.6 m) and high altitude passes (up to 5,400 m/17,716 ft).

For the truly adventurous we also offer a 9 Day/8 Night Extended Ausangate Rainbow Trek & Machu Picchu Package. Can’t choose which trail you like best – hike them both in this incredible combined trek.

Ausangate is an excellent and quiet/remote trekking circuit offering stunning features such as spectacular mountain scenery, snow-capped peaks, hot springs, turquoise lakes, glaciers, herds of llamas, alpacas, and wild vicuña, picturesque villages, and traditionally dressed Quechua people. This is a moderate to challenging trek, not technical, with several high passes and often freezing cold nights. It is essential to be properly acclimatized for this hike, spending at least two or three days in Cusco (or equivalent altitude) before starting. The campsites are at high elevations and therefore will be below freezing in the evenings. Minimum passengers necessary for trek departure: 2 people (1 person or private/custom treks possible with extra fee). Maximum trekkers per group: 10 people (special, private party groups can exceed maximum).

The Good Old Fine Print

Itinerary and Price Changes

Itinerary is subject to change. Peru is a developing country and because of this the company cannot guarantee that everything will go according to plan.  Events may occur that are beyond our control and could force us to change the itinerary (examples: strikes, road blocks, road work, landslides, natural disasters, inclement weather, flight cancellations, train problems, etc). The company accepts no liability for these problems but we will do our best to change the itinerary and ensure the smoothest trip possible.  Additionally, sometimes service providers in Peru increase their prices with little or no notice (example: train, flights, entry fees to ruin sites).  When this happens will we notify you of the price increase and tour cost change. Please see our terms and conditions for full details.

Travel/Medical Insurance for your trip

Travel Medical Insurance: is required to depart on any trek (including emergency evacuation coverage and high altitude hiking). We also suggest personal travel interruption insurance in the event of inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances that may arise. Please be sure you have adequate travel/medical insurance to deal with any health emergencies or travel interruption, and associated costs, that might occur.  Killa Expeditions is not responsible for losses incurred due to any travel interruption (ex: weather/natural phenomena, missed/delayed/canceled flight, acts of war/terrorism, strikes, etc.), passport, visa, family emergency, or illness/medical issues.

Please keep track of all of your personal items at all times. The company is not responsible for loss of personal effects. All trekkers will be required to sign an accident waiver and medical status form prior to departure.

Pre-Trek Briefing

All treks have a briefing the night before departure and all questions can be answered at that time by your guide or office staff. However, any questions you have about the treks before or after booking please feel free to contact us. We also have a lot of information about Cusco that we can provide, hotels and restaurants we can recommend and offer discounts to, and we can also arrange any special, custom travel needs you may have - just ask!

We hold most of our briefings the night before at 7pm (for treks and day hikes) in our office. We will confirm this with you a few weeks prior to departure.

Post-Trek Reports

After each trip or tour, your guide will provide you with a survey report to fill out about your overall satisfaction. Please be honest and make suggestions where you feel they are warranted, but please do be realistic and keep in mind you are in a foreign, developing country with different cultural values and not everything you have grown accustomed to and expect in your country is available here. If you have questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

These may limit or exclude liability of the supplier. Killa Expeditions is not responsible for any damages, expenses, losses, or claims which are attributable to the fault of any Client, the unforeseeable or unavoidable act or omission of a third party unconnected with the provision of any services that form any part of the Product(s), or a force majeure event (as herein defined). Killa Expeditions shall have no liability for loss, theft of or damage to baggage or personal effects of Clients while participating in a Product tour. Clients should not leave personal belongings unattended in any public areas, on board any mode of transportation, or elsewhere, and are responsible at all times for their own effects and belongings. Killa Expeditions cannot accept responsibility for and in no event shall be liable for loss or damage of valuables or other articles left in or on facilities used by Killa Expeditions such as hotels, homestays, vessels, expedition vehicles, or any other mode of transportation. In the event that any loss, death, injury or illness is caused by the negligent acts and/or omissions of Killa Expeditions or of the third-party suppliers of any services which form part of the Contract then Killa Expeditions limits its liability, where applicable by all applicable International Conventions. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary elsewhere in these Terms, Killa Expeditions shall not in any circumstances be liable to Clients for any loss or anticipated loss of profit, loss of enjoyment, loss of revenue, loss of use, loss of contract or other opportunity nor for any other consequential or indirect loss or damage of a similar nature. For claims not involving personal injury, death or illness or which are not subject to the Conventions referred to above, any liability Killa Expeditions may incur for the negligent acts and/or omissions of its suppliers shall be limited to a maximum of the price which the Client paid for the Product, not including insurance premiums and administration charges. Where this relates to loss of and/or damage to luggage and/or other personal possessions then Killa Expeditions liability will not exceed $500. Killa Expeditions will not at any time be liable for any loss of or damage to valuables of any nature. The Client agrees that they shall be precluded from making a double recovery by making the same claims and seeking recovery against Killa Expeditions and its suppliers, contractors or other third parties.
